DECLARATORIA DE CUENCA<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Quienes coordinamos el Monitoreo Mundial de Medios en la región de América Latina y el Caribe hispanoparlante y Hait\u00ed reunidas en esta ciudad rumbo al GMMP para su sexta edición en 2020:<\/p>\n

 <\/span><\/p>\n

Desde 1995 generamos la evidencia de la sub representación de las mujeres en las noticias. Tan solo en el último monitoreo (2015) las mujeres fueron sujetas en solo 27 por ciento de las noticias, a ello se suma el tratamiento sexista y estereotipado.<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

Reconocemos la comunicación como un derecho humano fundamental incluido en la sección J de la Plataforma de Acción de Beijing y partiendo del principio de igualdad contenido en la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos y la Convención Interamericana de Derechos Humanos, marcos internacionales y legislaciones nacionales relacionados a derechos humanos de las mujeres, exhortamos a:<\/span><\/p>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

A los Estados:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>I.\t<\/span>Reconocer el derecho humano de las mujeres a la comunicación y a la libertad de expresión <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>II.\t<\/span>Generar pol\u00edticas económicas y financieras que incluyan mecanismos para que las mujeres, desde sus diversas condiciones, puedan contar con recursos para acceder a la propiedad y funcionamiento de los medios de comunicación. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>III.\t<\/span>Garantizar condiciones de seguridad para el ejercicio libre del periodismo y garantizar mecanismos de protección para las comunicadoras en riesgo.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>IV.\t<\/span>Incluir la violencia simbólica y\/o mediática en las legislaciones de los pa\u00edses producida por los medios de comunicación.<\/span><\/p>\n

CUENCA DECLARATION<\/h3>\n

 <\/h3>\n

We, the Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) coordinators in Latin American, the Spanish-speaking Caribbean region and Haiti meeting in Cuenca for the sixth edition of the GMMP (2020):<\/span><\/h3>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Note that since 1995 we have been generating evidence of the underrepresentation of women in the news. One finding of the last monitoring in 2015 was that women were only 24 percent of the subjects and sources in the news, they were also subjected to sexist and stereotyped treatment.<\/span><\/h3>\n


<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>Recognize communication as a fundamental human right following Section J of the Beijing Platform for Action and based on the principle of equality contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Inter-American Convention on Human Rights, international frameworks and national laws on the human rights of women.<\/span><\/p>\n

We urge<\/em> <\/p>\n

States to:<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>I.\t<\/span>Recognize the human rights of women to communication and freedom of expression<\/p>\n

<\/span>II.\t<\/span>Generate economic and financial policies that include mechanisms to enable all women to have the resources that can allow them to gain access to media ownership and management<\/p>\n

<\/span>III.\t<\/span>Guarantee security measures for the free exercise of journalism and guarantee protection measures for women journalists at risk.<\/p>\n

<\/span>IV.\t<\/span>Include symbolic and \/or media violence in national legislation produced by the media.<\/p>\n
