The GMMP was initially inspired by the concern of women activists to bring the issue of media accountability to the forefront of the debate on gender inequalities. Its subsequent implementation was guided by the concern of researchers to ensure comparable and accurate analysis of data collected in different settings by different individuals. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h5><strong>What the research findings are used for:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>The research findings are useful for education, policy advocacy, public awareness, gender-equality\/women\u2019s rights activism, media and communication policy development, among other applications. The findings are applied by gender equality organisations, women\u2019s rights groups, education institutions and other agencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h5><strong>1995 \u2013 2015:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h5>\n<p>Five GMMPs have been carried out so far, in 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015. Participation increased from 71 countries in 1995 to 114 countries in 2015, evidencing a growing interest, willingness to engage on issues of gender in the media and commitment to propel change towards media that affirms women\u2019s rights and gender equality objectives. The monitoring shows extremely slow progress in bringing women\u2019s voices to bear in public discourse taking place through the news media. Not only does the news present a male-centric view of the world, it is also marked by gender bias and extensive stereotyping that underpin marginalisation, discrimination and violence against girls and women. GMMP 2015 revealed persistent and emerging gaps in gender portrayal and representation in not only traditional (print and broadcast) media, but in new electronic media forms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<p>The GMMP maintains the spotlight on gender inequalities perpetuated in and through the news media, and the demands for change. It updates the data for use in sensitizing new generations of journalists, creating awareness in media consumers, and for media policy and practice change advocacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h5><strong>2020:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h5>\n<p>The 6th GMMP will generate new statistics to track change in media gender equality indicators, and at the same time, contribute data to measure performance in efforts to end all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere (SDG Target 5.1), responding specifically to the need for robust measurement of country performance on establishment of legal frameworks to promote, enforce and monitor equality and non-discrimination on the basis of sex (Indicator 5.1.1). GMMP 2020 will update the evidence, identify persistent and emerging gaps, develop global, regional and national plans of actions on the basis of the evidence, and support implementation of the plans of action following the media monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --><!-- wp:paragraph --><\/p>\n<h5><strong>GMMP Network:<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h5>\n<p>The GMMP network&#8217;s membership spans over 100 countries in every continent across the world. Es tambi\u00e9n la iniciativa de incidencia p\u00fablica m\u00e1s grande en el mundo que eval\u00faa c\u00f3mo ha ido cambiando la representaci\u00f3n de g\u00e9nero en los medios. Y es el \u00fanico proyecto que incluye entre sus participantes a miembros de organizaciones populares y de base as\u00ed como estudiantes universitarias, investigadoras y comunicadores profesionales. Todas y todos los participantes lo hacen en forma voluntaria.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Porque es importante<\/strong>:<\/h5>\n<p>La importancia del monitoreo de medios como una herramienta para el cambio fue reconocida oficialmente por las Naciones Unidas por primera vez en la secci\u00f3n J de la Plataforma de Acci\u00f3n de Beijing de 1995. El GMMP se inspir\u00f3 inicialmente en la preocupaci\u00f3n de las mujeres activistas para llevar la cuesti\u00f3n de la responsabilidad de los medios a la vanguardia de los debates en torno a las desigualdades de g\u00e9nero. C\u2019est aussi la plus grande initiative de plaidoyer mondial qui \u00e9value le changement dans la repr\u00e9sentation des femmes et des hommes dans les m\u00e9dias. C\u2019est un projet unique dans son inclusion des participants volontaires provenant des groupes de base communautaires ainsi que des \u00e9tudiants universitaires et chercheurs tout aussi bien que des professionnels des m\u00e9dias.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Pourquoi il est important :\u00a0<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>L&#8217;importance du monitorage des m\u00e9dias comme un outil de changement a \u00e9t\u00e9 officiellement reconnu par l&#8217;Organisation des Nations Unies pour la premi\u00e8re fois dans la section J du Programme d&#8217;action de Beijing de 1995. Le GMMP a \u00e9t\u00e9 initialement inspir\u00e9 par le souci des femmes activistes de porter la question de la transparence des m\u00e9dias au point du d\u00e9bat sur l\u2019in\u00e9galit\u00e9 des genres. Sa mise en \u0153uvre subs\u00e9quente a \u00e9t\u00e9 guid\u00e9e par le souci des chercheurs, afin de garantir la comparabilit\u00e9 et analyse pr\u00e9cise des donn\u00e9es recueillies dans les diff\u00e9rents param\u00e8tres par des personnes diff\u00e9rentes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019utilisation des conclusions de cette recherche: Les r\u00e9sultats de la recherche sont utiles pour l&#8217;\u00e9ducation, la promotion des politiques, la sensibilisation du public, l&#8217;\u00e9galit\u00e9 des genres\/activistes des droits de femmes, le d\u00e9veloppement des m\u00e9dias et de la communication politique, parmi d&#8217;autres applications.
