What will shape women's rights over the next 15 years?

Share your thoughts through an online discussion on the Sustainable Development Goals. The Guardian (UK) online news invites your participation.

What should be included in the sustainable development goals to promote women’s equality and empowerment, and will they work?

"Decisions made in 2015 will help shape the women’s rights agenda for the next 15 years. In September, world leaders will endorse a new set of development goals at the UN. The proposed sustainable development goals (SDGs), which will replace the millennium development goals (MDGs), feature a standalone goal on gender, which encourages the world to “achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

The invitation to participate notes that  the UN starts negotiations next week on finalising the SDGs.

Are  the targets sufficient? Has anything been missed out or lost in the discussions?

Advancing gender equality in media

In my opinion, the most effective strategy to achieve gender-sensitive media is:

Increased gender-awareness training of media professionals
Greater action by audiences to hold their media accountable
Stricter enforcement of gender-focussed media codes and policies
More female journalists, editors and media house managers

#MeToo #TimesUp

In my view, society is less tolerant of sexist stereotypes in the media now than three years ago.
