CALL FOR INPUT: Online violence against women

The Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women Dubravka Šimonović is seeking input on good law practices regulating violence against women and sexual harassment online.

The material will inform her report to the Human Rights Council in June 2018.  States, national human rightsinstitutes, non-governmental organizations and members of academia areinvited to contribute.

All submissions must be sent electronically to vaw@ohchr.org with the subject line “submission on online violence against women” by September 30, 2017.

The focus topics are:
•    Existing legislative models, criminal or administrative, on prosecuting and punishing various forms of online violence against women;
•    Existing policies that allow identification, reporting and rectification of incidents of harassment or violence against women via the internet services providers;
•    Existing jurisprudence from international, regional, and national courts, on prosecution or administrative proceedings in such cases

The input will inform “recommendations for States and non-State actors to fight online violence against women and girls while respecting freedom of expression and the prohibition of incitement to violence and hatred, in accordance with article 20 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights” to be contained in the report.

Contributions may be submitted in English, Spanish or French.
