Guyana (2)

  on January 21, 2014

The day went well and it was truly an eye-opening experience to monitor news in Guyana and realize that women really are shut out from the news, except when we’re victims and in many instances, tragic casualties. I do hope this changes and from within my own company, I intend to spread the much needed awareness. In our case, there are so many missed opportunities at gender balance. This experience really has me fired up.

Beijing +20: In my opinion...

The most important contribution that the Beijing Platform for Action has made to advancing gender equality in and through the media is:

Setting global standards to which governments and the media can be held accountable
Bringing coherence to and greater understanding of civil society initiatives on gender, women and media
Raising the profile of work on 'women and media' as important for addressing gender inequalities in women's lived experiences.
